When drop shot fishing how much line should there be?

When drop shot fishing how much line should there be between the hook and the sinker, and what is a good bait to use while drop shotting?

Answer:
The distance between hook and the sinker while fishing for suspended fish is approximately 10" - 12 ". If I am fishing the bait on the bottom or in vegetation I will adjust the distance accordingly. For instance, if I am seeing on my graph that the vegetation is 18" tall or the fish are holding 18" off the bottom that is the length of my leader. In this case the weight is also used as a gauge to ensure your bait stays in the strike zone.
